Essamba Home Foundation started a new project, The Art of Sewing'', from the 1st of March until the 1st of September 2018 in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Thanks to a donation of 20 sewing machines, by Gered Gereedschap, the Foundation has been able to offer a sewing training to disadvantaged youth such as teen moms and street girls. A total of 27 girls, aged 12 till 28 years old, are currently following the course. They are accompanied by three well-established local fashion designers and will learn to create sellable textile products.
Vocational training, are of great importance in Africa, because the knowledge can always be applied and provides for a secure future. Aside from being creative the girls will enhance their economic independence.
In addition, an independent woman can apply her talent, wisdom and strength to actively participate in the community from which everyone benefits. Hence the crucial importance to help the street girls build a better life for themselves.
